Farewell, 2018!

What a year this has been!

I have learnt to let go, to grieve, to hold on to my friends, to find new ones, to love and be loved, to learn to get to know each other and myself, to let go of unnecessary worries, to find joy in the simple things. I have learned to find common pace and respect boundaries, to be adored and to let myself be adored, to share happiness, to be tough.

I have started a new job that I love, ran my 10th half marathon, was hiking on the West Highland Way, I have finally visited Potsdam, played the minimalist game, managed to decrease my trash to a level where emptying the recycling bin once a week is more than enough, I have gotten genuinely enthusiastic and felt loved.

I am grateful for all the challenges I had to face this year, and especially for the good company of my friends I could always rely on for support and fun.

This year was a good one. I hardly can wait to see what the future brings.

Ride On / Right On

Today is the day. One last day at work, then heading home. Every moment has its purpose today – I am not wasting my time. I hardly can wait to get in the car and hit the roads to meet my family in the morning.

2018, I am finishing you up today. You’ve been great! 🙂

Tears of joy

I made a friend cry today. She cried with tears of joy when she saw her present and I couldn’t be happier, for her tears meant she understood the idea behind the gift.

I feel very lucky lately, for I have friends and family who really know me well.
I think I’ve learned a lot about myself this year and the nicest compliment for all my efforts is when someone says it’s inspiring to see my enthusiasm.

I tend to feel the exhaustion of the year as I am in the final rush before heading home, but I hardly can wait to see what the next year brings.
Bring on the changes. Everything is temporary.

Christmas around the corner

We ran some errands tonight with Báró, my dog, to purchase the last pieces for my Christmas presents. This last week is exhausting, even though we are only a few days away from travelling home. Even though we didn’t have much time, we took a few minutes to look around in the city, and finally, the Christmas mood found me.

It is snowy and white at home. I hope the snow will wait for us until the weekend.

Declare independence

It is the 3rd Advent tonight and people in Hungary are protesting in front of the central building of the public television. It is several days in a row now and the crowds are desperate. There’s no way escaping politics in Hungary today.

It hurts my soul what happens in my country, for the future is dark.

In the long term

My best friend just got married today.

I still remember how excited she was about her husband for the first time. It was a long, long time ago, and their paths did not cross for a while. Borders, work, languages and a long distance were between them. But they got it on. On the long term.

Anita, Kubu, I am so happy for you two tonight! I hope everything went as you wished, even against all the obstacles. You two have been through so much, and I am so proud of you to finally tie the knot – even though I believe you know, for me, it’s the engagement that’s the big decision. 🙂

I am sending all the good vibes your way, and wish for you two to be happy and in love no matter what the future brings. You can count on me in case you need a partner in crime, someone to hit you with a monkey, if you need a shoulder to cry on, or a crazy friend suggesting all the silly things from outside of the box. 😉
I love you both a lot! Take good care of each other. (…or I’ll kick your ass 😉 )

AJA!!!

Another year

The end of the year feeling has hit me tonight.

I met a dear friend, with whom we always visit the Christmas market near Gedächtnisskirche to have some real Hungarian lángos and Glühwein.
He’s surprised me with the best zero waste presents: a new baby plant and some tea and chocolate. He knows me well.

It’s unbelievable that yet another year has passed. I hardly can believe how far I’ve gotten compared to last year. Yet some things never change. Friendships can be like that. I am grateful for my dear friends, who are within reach at any time.
