Blue

I was watching AnnenMayKantereit performing tonight for the SOS Sessions over YouTube and it was such a thought provoking experience. No audience, only a live feed, communication limited to online media. It was a nice thing to watch the Spende-meter exceed the expectations already on the first day of the initiative. We are the lucky ones.

Be grateful for what you have every day. A roof above your head, heat, food to eat and drinking water in your taps. No one should miss these.

Transit city

Another dear friend of mine has decided to leave Berlin and move back home. Transit city. It never gets easier, but it’s always a nice feeling as well. Because connections don’t get cut by changing the location.

Slowly, I am gaining friends all over the World.

Safe trip, Senni. You rock! 🙂
You’ll be missed, but I will visit you when I can 😉

Start again

A few days, and measures will be taken again, in hopes to survive a second lockdown (“lockdown light”) and save Christmas.
Life will get somewhat more grey, contacts with each other will need to be avoided, time to close in. Hopefully a few weeks would help getting the numbers down for the holiday season.

The idea of spending Christmas away from my family is heavy. But let’s cross that bridge when we get there. A lot of water will go down on the Spree by then…

As with many things, I just have to wait now and see how things turn.
This is not a good type of waiting. But we will see soon enough how things change.

The end of the year is getting closer every day and I hardly can believe how much and how little has happened this year. 2020 will go down in history and will probably be a time everyone remembers.

Worrying about things we can not control only steals energy. So I will keep focusing on what I can do and put my energies in good use. We will see how it goes.

AnnenMayKantereit – Waiting

5 years

On the 27th of October 2015 I used my one way train ticket to move to Berlin. I can’t believe how fast time flies. Today marks my 5th anniversary, and I feel good where I am.

Looking back at all the photos from this past year, the 27th is always like New Year’s Eve for me. I look back at all the good memories, think of all the struggles, the little victories, and while connecting the dots, I get to the conclusion that my path is heading the right way.

This year has been a lot of things. I had to face quite some challenges, and I am hoping that I learned and I am learning from all of them.

One thing is for sure: I managed to surround myself with the best people. I not only have my family and my best friends, but over the years, I managed to grow a network of amazing people who are always here for me. I am a lucky one.

My Berlin story is definitely a love story. Ich ❤ mein Leben.

Wheel turning

5 years ago on this day, I was still making notes in my notebook to prepare for my move to Berlin. I knew I would be tired the next day, as an 11 hour train ride was ahead of me. Yet I could not sleep. That was my last night in my childhood room, for who knows how long. It was the last night with my dog, for who knows how long.

Looking back, it needed courage to pack up all the necessary in one big bag, a backpack, a handbag and a Tesco paper bag and go.

So many things have changed since then. I will do some summary and processing tomorrow, but tonight, it keeps me awake.

With all its struggles, life is amazingly exciting, when you really live.
I am so lucky to have the pivilige to do so. With the support of my family and friends. And my belief that it’s never too late to turn the wheel to adjust the temporary arrangements we are in.

Let’s hike

One of the things that make me love Berlin so much is the endless green areas and forests, all easily reachable with public transport.
We had a beautiful autumn hike to Briesetal today. I couldn’t believe the colours, all the different shades on the leaves and on the ground, the mushrooms on the way, the water reflecting the sunshine. We even saw some swans, and 3 deers ran across the road just in front of us. It was breathtaking.

I hope the weather will allow us to do some more hikes still this year. When you spend some time in nature, you forget about the rest of the World and its problems.

Get your hiking boots out of the wardrobe. Autumn is finally at its full grace.

Colours

I just can’t get enough of all the colours this autumn. No wonder it’s my favourite season. Especially on days like today, when the Sun decides to come out.

Clean cut

Some goodbyes are tidier than others. An end of an era is always a weird combination of sadness, freedom, relief and joyful memories.
The good peeps remain.

Density

2020 is dense. I hardly can believe it’s almost November. So many things have happened this year, and time flies so weirdly. Sometimes it doesn’t feel at all and months just pass by without even noticing it, other times every day feels like a week.

Closing chapters, opening new books, starting over and over, going the extra mile for dreams and illusions.
All of that in the middle of a pandemic.

I don’t know how this year will end, but one thing is for sure: I learned a lot this year.
